A STREET ART AND GRAFFITI BLOG, FROM MADRID by @redesycalles
Graffiti and uncommissioned street art can be read as ongoing explorations of the city and of public space. As urban explorations, they produce uncommissioned cities in the legislated city (Alison Young 2014) and/or a parallel city (Javier Abarca). This blog documents and explores encounters with uncommissioned street art and graffiti while walking in the streets of Madrid and while in transit in its highways from the passenger seat. As territorial practices that explore and transform public space, these unauthorized urban interventions enact rights to the city and thus may shed light on the ways in which neoliberal governmentality is contested in the global city.
The tab feminist graffiti and street activism groups together feminist graffiti, street art, posters and other urban practices that I have encountered walking through Madrid and other cities since 2014. I will be uploading these photos regularly in order to document contemporary street activisms that perform a feminist right to the city. El graffiti y el arte urbano no comisionado pueden ser leídos como exploraciones contínuas de la ciudad y del espacio público. Como exploraciones urbanas, producen ciudades no comisionadas dentro de la ciudad legislada (Alison Young 2019) y/o una ciudad paralela (Javier Abarca). Este blog documenta y explora encuentros con graffiti y arte urbano no comisionado andando por las calles de Madrid y en tránsito por sus autovías desde el asiento de copilotxs. Entendidas como prácticas territoriales que exploran y transforman el espacio público, estas intervenciones urbanas no autorizadas ejercen derechos a la ciudad y pueden iluminar las formas en que la gubernamentalidad neoliberal es desafiada en la ciudad global.
